Minecraft Dungeons II Capes and Cosmetics
Five capes, two crossover unlocks, and the deadlines that actually matter.
Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29, 2026, and Mojang already published a wardrobe. The August 27, 2026 Minecraft.net capes-and-promos article is the source of truth for how each mantle is earned. This page is the how-to, not a fashion contest: which cape needs a pre-order, which needs Deluxe, which needs you to boot the first game, and which two also appear on your Java or Bedrock player.
Capes are cosmetics. They do not change dodge frames, Blacksmith fees, or the Copper Monstrosity’s lightning. Pets and hero skins in the same promotions are also cosmetics unless a launch tooltip says otherwise. Official copy is already blunt about Deluxe’s Blub: it cannot fight battles. Wear the chicken because you like the chicken.

If a social post collapses those five into “free cape with Game Pass,” ignore it. Game Pass includes the Standard campaign. It does not automatically include Deluxe’s Soul Cape, and it does not replace a missed pre-order.
Hero Cape — play the first game, then log in
The Hero Cape is the loyalty drape: crimson cloth with gold motifs, described as a vintage statement piece. The steps are short and easy to mess up.
- Play Minecraft Dungeons (the 2020 game). Own it, boot it, exist as a hero on that account. The promo is not “have heard of Dungeons.”
- Log into Minecraft Dungeons II before December 31, 2026 on the same Microsoft account.
- Once the cape is visible and equippable in Dungeons II, log into Minecraft: Java Edition and/or Bedrock Edition on that same account to unlock it there too.
Couch co-op on a friend’s console still needs your Microsoft account signed in if you want the unlock attributed to you. Mojang’s article is explicit about that. Physical copies of Dungeons II that include a code still have to redeem the code first, then follow the login steps — see the physical note below.
The December 31, 2026 cutoff is the one people will miss in November. Playing Dungeons I in 2021 does not help if you never boot the sequel before New Year. Playing the sequel on day one does not help if you never owned Dungeons I. Both halves are required.
Twisted Cape — pre-order, then confirm in two games
The Twisted Cape is the pre-order mantle. Official copy says it is the piece you sculk around in. This wiki treats it as inspired by the Twisted Warden — the supersized Deep Dark boss from the June Showcase — not as a drop from that fight. You buy it with a pre-order, not with a sonic boom.
The rest of the pre-order pile, documented on pre-order and editions, is:
- Two exclusive hero skins (Steve and Alex outfitted for the rifts, per the official promo article)
- The Twisted Cape
- The Twisted Chicken pet
After launch, log into Dungeons II with the Microsoft account that owns the pre-order and confirm the items. Then log into Bedrock and/or Java on that same account to confirm the Twisted Cape there as well. The chicken is a Dungeons II companion. The cape is the piece that crosses over.
The offer expires September 28, 2026. Buying Standard on September 29 still gets you the campaign. It does not get you this bundle. Deluxe buyers who pre-order still receive the Twisted pack on top of Deluxe’s own cosmetics, according to store copy that lists unique Deluxe cosmetics plus pre-order cosmetics plus DLC 1 and 2.
Soul Cape — Deluxe, and it stays in Dungeons II
Deluxe is $49.99. The Soul Cape is the Deluxe mantle: official flavour text talks about facing soul-infused creepers, zombies, and bosses. Unlike Hero and Twisted, the Soul Cape is not listed as a Java or Bedrock unlock. Wear it in Dungeons II. Do not expect it on your survival world.
Deluxe also includes:
- Blub, a squishy companion that official copy says cannot fight
- Four dark-golden hero skins of Valorie, Kellen, Ren, and Flores
- DLC 1 and DLC 2 when those packs actually ship
The long receipt lives on Deluxe Edition and DLC. The short version for this page: if you only want the Soul Cape, you are paying twenty dollars over Standard for a Dungeons II-only cosmetic plus two unscheduled adventures. Fashion is a real reason. Pretending the cape is a damage stat is not.
Corrupted Creeper Cape — events, starting at gamescom
The Corrupted Creeper Cape looks like the abyssal face of a soul-corrupted mob printed on your back. It is a Dungeons II promo cape, not a store SKU. Mojang’s article says it will appear in promotional activities before and around launch, both online and offline, starting in person at gamescom. Coverage of that show placed the Xbox booth in Hall 7. If you were in Cologne and scanned whatever the booth was handing out, you are in the first wave. Everyone else waits for the next listed event.
Future online and offline events were TBA as of the August 27 article. This wiki will add those windows when Minecraft.net or Xbox Wire names them. We will not invent a Discord “drop code.” If a stranger DMs a cape generator, close the tab.
Special Cape — stay tuned
The fifth slot is a joke and a promise. The official article admits the writer had to freestyle the flavour text because the cape is unannounced. How to acquire: stay tuned. Do not pre-pay a reseller for a Special Cape. There is nothing to redeem yet.
Physical copies, codes, and the same Microsoft account
If you pre-order a physical copy, the cape steps start with a code in the box:

Redeem on the platform you bought, then follow the digital how-to-acquire steps. Internet access is required so Mojang can confirm playtime and entitlements. Confirmations can lag. Contact official customer service if a cape does not appear; this fan wiki cannot push the entitlement.
Use one Microsoft account across Dungeons I, Dungeons II, Java, and Bedrock. Mixing a child’s account, a Steam-linked account, and a console guest profile is how Hero and Twisted fail to cross over. Pets and skins people mix into the cape list
- Twisted Chicken — pre-order pet. Origins “shrouded in mystery,” which is marketing for a soul-looking chicken. Treat it as a follow companion until a launch tooltip gives it a talisman slot.
- Blub — Deluxe pet. Official: cannot fight, will win hearts. Do not evict a combat dog talisman for Blub.
- Pre-order hero skins — two, Steve and Alex themed for the rifts.
- Deluxe hero skins — four dark-golden takes on Valorie, Kellen, Ren, and Flores.
- Marketplace packs — Mojang is also bringing back the classic Dungeons Hero skin pack in Minecraft, plus a Dungeons II Hero pack featuring those four named heroes. Those are Bedrock Marketplace purchases, sold separately from the Dungeons II SKUs. They are not capes.
Which cape should you actually chase?
- You already own Dungeons I and will boot the sequel in 2026: Hero Cape is free with a calendar reminder.
- You want the sculk look and the chicken: pre-order before September 28.
- You want the Soul Cape and both later DLC packs: Deluxe.
- You went to gamescom or will attend a later listed event: Corrupted Creeper.
- You only subscribe to Game Pass: play the campaign on day one. Buy a cape path later if you still care.
