Minecraft Dungeons II How to Enter The Sift
The new dimension behind Minecraft Dungeons II's Overworld rifts.
The Sift is the sequel’s new dimension. Mysterious rifts open across the Overworld; stepping through them drops a party into a place Mojang keeps calling equally strange and beautiful. This page is the how-to-enter and how-to-survive version of that reveal: where rifts sit in the structure of the game, what the August 20, 2026 gameplay trailer actually showed, and how to fight the things that live there.
How you get there
You do not pick The Sift from a 2020-style mission list. You travel the connected Overworld from Brave Haven, find a rift, and walk through it. Official copy from Minecraft.net is blunt: “Players who step through the rifts will enter the Sift.” Trailer footage shows a four-hero party doing exactly that — a portal, a bloom of colour, then a landscape that is not a swamp reskin of the first game.
Until launch, treat rifts as story-gated and map-gated. Do not expect to farm them in minute one. Do expect them to sit on the same Overworld you already use for minecarts and Rainy Plains dungeons. If a rift is visible and interactable, the party should enter together. Split portals are how you turn a co-op run into two solo deaths.
What the trailer showed inside
The official gameplay trailer (embedded in the middle of this page) is the primary source. In order, it shows:
- A peaceful-looking first contact with small four-legged creatures — cute until the mouth opens.
- Guards on a bridge, then a spider brood in caves.
- Illagers ambushing a ravine.
- Loadout customisation, including a Battlestaff and an Enchantsmith screen applying Frost Crescent II to a sword named Pride of the Plains.
- Floating jellyfish-like sprouts that beam yellow support into other mobs.
- Arena fights that use jump more than the Overworld does.
Community breakdowns of those frames also flag blob-like grazers (the “bunnies” of the dimension) and a merchant presence, which suggests The Sift is not a single boss corridor. It is a place you kit for, not a cutscene.
How to fight in The Sift
Jump is not optional here. Coverage after Minecraft Live described vantage points and leaping attacks against flying threats. If your controls still share jump and dodge on one key, fix that before you enter a rift.
Prioritise support mobs. Sprouts that beam yellow into allies are the reason a pack feels immortal. Kill the beam, then the tank. The same rule will apply to anything that looks like a cute critter standing behind a royal guard.
Bring a ranged option that works while you move. Charged bows are fine for Pride-of-the-Plains beauty shots. Crossbows and trickbows are better when the floor is also trying to eat you. Pair them with dodge-roll enchants from the Enchantsmith if you found the “arrows on roll” book.
Melee still matters. The Battlestaff gets a trailer close-up for a reason: reach. Dual daggers and sickles will feel good until a copper cube or a ravager decides your personal space is a suggestion. Keep one long melee in the bag even if you main a bow.
How The Sift connects to the rest of the game
The Overworld is the hub continent. The Sift is the first extra dimension, not a replacement for Howling Woods or Rainy Plains. Soul corruption, illagers, and the Deep Dark threat still exist on the home side — the Twisted Warden is an Overworld/Deep Dark spectacle, while copper and Sift fauna are the “other world” flavour. You will bounce between them.
Enchant Books you find in The Sift still go home to Brave Haven’s Enchantsmith. Loot power still goes through the Blacksmith. Nothing about the dimension replaces town. If a unique drops in a rift, ride the minecart home before you vendor it in a panic.
Party advice
Four players fit. The trailer is a four-hero commercial. Spread enough that a single lightning circle or spider dump does not eat the whole squad, but stay inside revive range. Assign one person to call support mobs. Assign one person to watch the floor. That is enough of a raid plan for a game that still wants to be a hangout.
If someone in the group is new, let them stay in the Overworld for a dungeon first. Getting Started and How to Play are the on-ramps. The Sift is the “you already know how to jump” destination.
What we are not going to invent
No fake rift coordinates. No invented boss names beyond what trailers and demos showed. No claim that The Sift is the entire campaign. When launch maps are public, this page will add routes. Until then, the how-to is: find the rift on the Overworld, enter as a group, kill the support mobs, jump when the dimension asks you to jump, and bring the loot home to Brave Haven.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do you unlock The Sift in Minecraft Dungeons II?
Rifts open on the Overworld. Walk through one as a party. Official copy does not list a separate menu button for the dimension.
Is The Sift the whole game?
No. It sits alongside a connected Overworld with towns such as Brave Haven and dungeons such as Rainy Plains and Howling Woods.
Do I need a special item to enter a rift?
Trailers show heroes stepping through rifts directly. If a story item gates the first rift, it will be a campaign beat, not a hidden vendor trick.
What should I equip before The Sift?
A ranged weapon you can fire on the move, a long melee, and jump/dodge on separate binds. See starter builds for rift-ready templates.
