The gamescom 2026 boss: tank punches, floor lightning, and full-arena dashes.

How to Beat the Copper Monstrosity

The Copper Monstrosity is the first sequel boss with a public, repeatable plan. Xbox Wire played the fight at gamescom 2026 after a minecart ride out of Brave Haven and a slog through Rainy Plains. The arena is a tower. The boss is a hulking copper golem with a health bar that says exactly what it is. This page is the how-to-beat guide based on that hands-on, the official screenshots, and the HUD details in those shots.

What the fight is

Three phases of personality, not three fake health bars:

  1. Tank punches. Heavy melee that demands a dodge or a potion. The Xbox Wire writer drank potions like they were part of the combo. Copy that. Greeding extra light attacks is how you lose a third of a heart bar.
  2. Lightning AOE. Sparks crawl across the floor, then pop. Do not stand still to finish a charged shot. Walk out of the trace, then shoot.
  3. Full-arena dashes. The surprise tool. The boss also summons copper cubes that roll at heroes (a community name on Minecraft Wiki; no official add name yet). Kill or kite the cubes between lightning pops so you are not boxed in for a dash. The boss crosses the whole ring. If you are hugging a wall for “safety,” you are on the dash highway.

Screenshot evidence from the same demo shows a quest banner, “The Copper Monstrosity Revived,” and the instruction “Defeat the Copper Monstrosity.” Yellow lightning columns sit on the floor while a small hero chips a giant copper frame. That is the scale. You are not trading heavy attacks with an equal. You are a gnat with artifacts.

Loadout that actually worked in the demo

The presenter ran a ranged DPS with bombs and self-buffs. That is the template to steal:

  • Ranged weapon as the main damage button so you can move off lightning.
  • Melee for the seconds after a dash, when the boss is a punching bag instead of a train.
  • Bomb artifact for stationary windows.
  • Self-buff artifact so those windows hurt.
  • Dodge-related enchantments if you found them at the Enchantsmith — extra rolls, or arrows-on-roll if you want the funny build from the same event.

If you are under the boss’s power level, visit the Blacksmith first. The sequel’s entire point is that you can raise a favourite bow to the cap instead of fighting copper with a grey stick. Check the weapons tier list only after you can survive the dash; meta charts do not dodge for you.

How to beat it, step by step

Before the door. Clear the ambush on the tower approach. Gamescom coverage mentions waves of stronger mobs before the arena. Spend potions there and you will enter the boss thirsty. Spend artifacts there and you will enter the boss on cooldown. Walk in with bars full.

Opening punches. Circle, do not backpedal in a straight line. Straight lines are dash bait. Tap ranged, roll the slam, melee twice, roll again. If a talisman pet is up, let it take the first slam. Pets respawn. You do not.

Lightning traces. Look at the floor, not the health bar. The tell is sparks under your feet. Dodge or walk out, then dump artifacts. This is the phase where a greedy charged bow gets you killed.

Dashes. The moment the Monstrosity lines up a long path, stop damaging and move perpendicular. After the dash, it is late. That is your bomb window. Four-player groups should not all stand on the same axis — one dash should not delete the whole co-op party.

When you are dying anyway. Potions are part of the rotation. Xbox Wire said as much. A “save it for later” potion is a wipe. Later is the dash you did not dodge.

Co-op roles without a raid marker

One player watches the floor and calls lightning. One player baits dashes so the other three have a side angle. One player holds regen or a pet. Nobody stands in a clump on the Greek-key tiles at the edge of the screenshot — that is the dash rail.

If a friend is new, park them on ranged and potions. Give the war hammer to the person who already finished How to Play. The boss is tuned as a skill check, not as a gear check you can skip by bringing four people. Four people who all greed punches will still wipe.

After the kill

Ride back to Brave Haven. Run the drops through the Blacksmith before the next Overworld node. If a copper-themed unique appears, do not vendor it on the tower floor. The Enchantsmith is in town. The Effects and Enchantments list is in town. The boss is a loot piñata with lightning, not a reason to invent a new build in a loading corridor.

When you want the other headline fight, switch to the Twisted Warden. When you want the dimension that is not a copper tower, switch to The Sift. The Monstrosity is the gamescom exam. Pass it by moving, not by staring at the health bar.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Where do you fight the Copper Monstrosity?

The gamescom demo reached it by minecart from Brave Haven toward Rainy Plains, then up a tower after an ambush.

What is the main mechanic?

Heavy punches, lightning that crawls along the floor, then full-arena dashes. Dodge the tell, then use artifacts.

Should I melee or bow the Copper Monstrosity?

The successful demo build was ranged DPS with bombs and buffs. Melee is for post-dash windows, not for eating slams.

Can I upgrade gear before the fight?

Yes. Use the Blacksmith in Brave Haven to push a favourite weapon to your current power cap.
