Minecraft Dungeons II Pre-order and Editions
Standard, Deluxe, Game Pass, and the bonuses that expire on September 28.
Minecraft Dungeons II is a premium sequel with a clean two-tier store. Standard is $29.99. Deluxe is $49.99. Game Pass includes the Standard campaign on day one for Xbox and PC. Pre-orders are open on Steam, Microsoft Store, PlayStation, and Nintendo. This page is the shopping guide: what each pile of money actually contains, which cosmetics expire, and when Deluxe is worth the extra twenty dollars.
Standard Edition — $29.99
You get the base campaign. That is the Overworld, Brave Haven, The Sift, the new armor and talisman systems, and four-player co-op. If you are on Game Pass, this is the pile you already own on September 29. If you buy it outright, Xbox Play Anywhere covers Xbox consoles and PC together; Steam is a separate PC copy.
Pre-order the Standard edition before September 28, 2026 and the storefronts attach a timed bonus pack:
- Two exclusive hero skins
- The Twisted cape
- The Twisted Chicken pet
Minecraft.net copy says the offer expires September 28, 2026. After that date, buying Standard still gets you the game. It does not get you that cosmetic bundle. If the chicken is the whole reason you are here, pre-order before that cutoff.
Deluxe Edition — $49.99
Deluxe includes Standard, then adds:
- Soul cape
- Blub pet
- Four hero skins
- DLC 1 and DLC 2, delivered when those packs actually ship
That last line is the real Deluxe pitch. You are pre-paying two post-launch adventures plus a cosmetic stack. If you skipped the original game’s DLC treadmill and regretted it, Deluxe is the “do not think about it again” SKU. If you only want the September 29 campaign, Deluxe is an expensive cape.
Deluxe buyers who pre-order still receive the timed Twisted pack on top, according to Xbox Wire and store listings that describe Deluxe as including unique cosmetics, pre-order cosmetics, and DLC 1+2.
Game Pass, cloud, and Play Anywhere
Day-one Game Pass is confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud. That is the cheapest way to play the campaign if you already subscribe. It is not automatically Deluxe. Expect to buy a Deluxe upgrade if you want Blub, the Soul cape, and the two DLC packs later.
Xbox Play Anywhere applies to the Xbox/PC purchase path: buy once, play on both, with Smart Delivery listed on the Microsoft store. Handheld-optimised and cloud-enabled flags are also on that listing, which matters if you bounce between a Series S, a PC, and a streaming tablet.
Steam is the other PC door. It requires a Microsoft account link. If your friends are on Steam and you are on Game Pass PC, you still need the co-op page’s cross-play caveat: listed as a capability, confirm in the friends menu on launch day.

Switch and Switch 2 are different software. Nintendo’s listing is explicit: you buy the version for the hardware you own. A Switch 2 cartridge or download does not replace a Switch 1 purchase.
Other bonuses people mix up
There is a Hero Cape promo described on Minecraft.net: play Minecraft Dungeons I, then log into Minecraft Dungeons II before December 31, 2026, then log into Java and/or Bedrock on the same Microsoft account. The Twisted Cape from a pre-order also unlocks in vanilla Minecraft. Soul Cape stays Deluxe-only. The full five-cape checklist is on capes and cosmetics. There is also a novel, Minecraft Dungeons II: The Rift by Caleb Zane Huett, scheduled for September 1, 2026 from Random House Worlds. It is not a game edition. Do not expect a digital sword to fall out of the hardcover.
Which SKU should you actually buy?
- Already on Game Pass — play Standard on day one. Upgrade later only if you want the DLC bundle.
- Want the campaign plus the chicken — Standard pre-order before September 28.
- Know you will buy both DLC packs anyway — Deluxe is the twenty-dollar hedge.
- Sharing a couch with kids — Standard or Game Pass. Skins do not change how to play.
- On Switch 1 and Switch 2 — read the SKU names twice. They are not the same product.
When you have paid, come back to Getting Started so the first hour is not another store comparison. Edition choice does not change Brave Haven. It only changes which chicken follows you there.
