Minecraft Dungeons II has been in public for half a year of trailers, not yet in players’ libraries. This hub is the timeline. Use it when you want to know which system arrived in which showcase, then jump to a guide when you want to know how to play that system.

The video in the middle of this page is the Minecraft LIVE announcement clip. It is the start of the public story, not the current patch notes. There are no day-one patch notes yet. Anyone posting “hotfix 1.0.1” before the servers exist is writing fiction.
Timeline (public, sourced)
March 2025. Project Spicewood leaks. The name still hides in official image filenames and in a trailer QR gag that hex-decodes to spicewood.
March 2026 — Minecraft Live. Official announcement. Sequel to 2020’s Minecraft Dungeons, Mojang Studios plus Double Eleven, Xbox Game Studios publishing, fall 2026 window. Codename confirmed later on Minecraft Wiki as Spicewood.
June 7, 2026 — Xbox Games Showcase. Date lock: September 29, 2026. Pre-orders open. Standard $29.99, Deluxe $49.99. Hands-on cave delve, jump, four armor slots, talismans, pet dog, Twisted Warden. Xbox Wire: “Minecraft Dungeons II Blows the Doors of the ARPG Wide Open.”
August 20, 2026. Official gameplay trailer: rifts lead to The Sift. Minecraft.net, Xbox Wire, Steam news, Nintendo, IGN all run the same minute-and-a-half. Frost Crescent II, Pride of the Plains, new fauna.
August 26, 2026 — gamescom. Thirty-minute hub-to-boss demo. Brave Haven, minecarts, Blacksmith, Enchantsmith, Copper Monstrosity, hold-to-open inventory. This is the most useful preview for guides.
August 27, 2026. Official cape promo article. Hero Cape needs Minecraft Dungeons I plus a Dungeons II login before December 31. Twisted Cape is the pre-order cosmetic and also unlocks in Java and Bedrock. Soul Cape is Deluxe. Corrupted Creeper Cape started at gamescom. A Special Cape is still TBA.
August 31, 2026. Minecraft.net gameplay-systems article: twelve combat slots, four armor pieces, talismans, unlimited recharging ammo, jump attacks, and an enchantment library. Details live on inventory and gear.
September 1, 2026. Novel Minecraft Dungeons II: The Rift by Caleb Zane Huett (Random House Worlds). Tie-in prequel, not a patch. Recap on The Rift novel.
September 28, 2026. Pre-order cosmetic cutoff for the Twisted cape, Twisted Chicken, and two hero skins.
September 29, 2026, 08:00 UTC. Launch on Windows, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, cloud, Game Pass.
What “updates” will mean after launch
Deluxe already admits two DLC packs. The original Dungeons game died on a paid-DLC treadmill that a lot of players disliked. Watch whether II’s post-launch is two finite adventures (the Deluxe promise) or another season pass. This hub will log that choice instead of cheering it by default.
