Minecraft Dungeons II Platforms and Game Pass

Where it launches, what Game Pass includes, and which SKU you actually own.

Platforms and Game Pass

Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29, 2026 at 08:00 UTC on more storefronts than the 2020 original. This page is the platform clipboard: which box you buy, what Game Pass actually contains, how Play Anywhere differs from Steam, and why Switch and Switch 2 are two products. Prices and cosmetics live on pre-order and editions. Specs live on system requirements. Party setup lives on co-op. Do not mix those three questions in a group chat.

The game is unreleased. Store pages can still move a file size or a capability flag. If Xbox.com and this wiki disagree on launch morning, Xbox.com wins until we update.

There is no Xbox One SKU. There is no PS4 SKU. Handheld-optimised flags on the Xbox listing mean supported handhelds, not a secret mobile client.

Game Pass versus Deluxe

Day-one Game Pass is confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud. That is the cheapest way to play the Standard campaign if you already subscribe. It is not Deluxe. Expect to buy a Deluxe upgrade if you want the Soul cape, Blub, the four Deluxe hero skins, and DLC 1 and 2 when those packs ship.

Game Pass also does not replace a missed pre-order. The Twisted cape, Twisted Chicken, and two hero skins are tied to pre-orders through September 28, 2026. Logging in on Game Pass on September 29 gets you the campaign. It does not get you that cosmetic bundle. The Hero Cape promo is a separate loyalty loop (play Dungeons I, then log into Dungeons II before December 31). Details: capes.

Online multiplayer on Xbox still follows Microsoft’s usual subscription rules. The store listing notes that online multiplayer on console requires an Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate plan, sold separately. If your household already has Ultimate, you are fine. If someone is on a Game Pass that does not include online multiplayer, read the SKU before you blame matchmaking.

Xbox Play Anywhere versus Steam

Play Anywhere applies to the Microsoft Store / Xbox purchase path: buy once, play on Xbox console and PC, with Smart Delivery on the Microsoft listing. That is the cleanest way to bounce between a Series S, a Windows desktop, and cloud without buying the game twice.

Steam is a separate PC license. It still requires a Microsoft account link because Mojang’s live services sit on that account. Friends on Steam and friends on Game Pass PC can still group if cross-play works, which the Xbox store lists as a capability: Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and Xbox cross-platform co-op. The original Minecraft Dungeons promised cross-play and delivered it later. Preview coverage of the sequel says it launches with cross-play enabled. Confirm the friends menu on day one anyway. If a Steam player cannot see a Game Pass player, it is a launch-week support article, not a wiki checkbox.

Do not buy Steam and Microsoft Store “just in case” unless you like paying twice. Pick the store your friends already use, or pick Microsoft if you want Play Anywhere plus Game Pass.

Switch and Switch 2 are different software

Nintendo lists them as separate products. A Switch 2 download does not replace a Switch 1 purchase. A Switch 1 cartridge does not become a Switch 2 upgrade for free. Buy the SKU that matches the hardware in the living room. Nintendo’s Switch 2 page listed an estimated 6.8 GB for both Switch and Switch 2. Physical Switch 2 copies have been described as Game-Key Card in some listings — a code on a card, not a full ROM. Read the box.

TV, tabletop, and handheld modes are listed. Touch screen and linear PCM surround are listed as supported features. Online play needs Nintendo Switch Online. Couch co-op on one Switch does not.

File sizes, languages, accessibility

Windows / Xbox store listings have shown a tiny ~340 MB number. Treat that as a storefront listing size, not a promise that the full install is a few hundred megabytes. The original Dungeons game’s store number and the actual install were not the same conversation. Budget like a small ARPG, then look at the download manager on pre-load day.

Switch / Switch 2: about 6.8 GB on Nintendo’s product page.

Steam lists seventeen languages for interface. Full audio is a shorter list (English, French, German, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, plus others as the store table currently marks). This wiki covers English, French, German, and Spanish. The game itself speaks more than the wiki.

The Xbox listing flags eight accessibility features. We will document the actual toggles after launch rather than invent a color-blind mode that might only be a subtitle size slider.

Cross-play, couch, and cloud

Xbox store capabilities currently include:

  • Single player
  • Xbox local co-op (2–4)
  • Online co-op (2–4)
  • Xbox local multiplayer (2–4)
  • Online multiplayer (2–4)
  • Xbox cross-platform multiplayer
  • Xbox cross-platform co-op
  • Xbox Play Anywhere
  • Optimized for Xbox Series X|S
  • Cloud via Game Pass

Couch plus online in the same session was shown at gamescom: you can fill empty local slots with remote players. That is the living-room pitch. Bind the hold-to-open mini inventory before you invite a fourth person. Controls page first, then this page, then the co-op guide.

Cloud is the escape hatch when a laptop fails system requirements. It is not a fourth edition. It is Standard-on-a-stream unless you bought Deluxe on that same Microsoft account.

Which door should you actually use?

  • Already on Game Pass Ultimate — play Standard on day one. Upgrade later only if you want DLC prepaid.
  • Xbox plus PC household — Microsoft Store / Play Anywhere.
  • Friends live on Steam — Steam, and accept the extra Microsoft account link.
  • PS5 living room — PS5 SKU. Online needs PS Plus.
  • Switch 1 in a backpack — Switch 1 SKU, not Switch 2.
  • Switch 2 under the TV — Switch 2 SKU. Read whether the physical copy is a Game-Key Card.
  • Under-spec laptop — cloud, or a Series S, not a miracle .ini.

When the storefront is settled, come back to Getting Started. The platform is not the game. Brave Haven is. The release date page is the countdown if all you needed was 08:00 UTC.
